SPANDRELS Team
The NEXTFLOW team brings forth expertise in experimental and computational aerodynamics, flow control and machine learning applied to turbulent flows. If you are willing to contribute to SPANDRELS or being part of the team, contact us

Andrea Ianiro
Principal Investigator
Andrea (Full Professor) is an expert in optical techniques in experimental aerodynamics and propulsion, and low-order modelling of turbulent flows.
He is co-supervising with Stefano Discetti the PhD thesis of Zhiyuan Wang on AI-Enhanced Flow Sensing.

Stefano Discetti
Full Professor
Stefano is Full Professor and Vice-Director for Strategy and Promotion of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. His main research interests are in the field of development of optical measurement techniques for fluid flows, data-driven techniques and machine learning.
He is co-supervising with Andrea the PhD thesis of Zhiyuan Wang on AI-Enhanced Flow Sensing.

Marco Raiola
Full Professor
Marco contributes to the project with his expertise in flow diagnostics and data-driven methods.

Iacopo Tirelli
Postdoctoral Researcher
Iacopo’s research combines artificial intelligence and fluid mechanics through physics-informed, data-driven methods for flow modeling, prediction, and control. Iacopo will contribute to the development of bio-inspired event sensing to efficiently manage turbulence, integrating fluid mechanics and machine learning to develop innovative solutions for complex flow phenomena

Zhiyuan Wang
PhD student
Zhiyuan’s thesis focuses on efficient flow sensing and control to enhance aerodynamic performance and support the development of high-efficiency, sustainable transportation systems.
